Seed Packets

Our seed blends come from colorful desert blooming perennial and annual plants grown in southwest botanical gardens. Once established, and with the proper environment, they will self seed and appear year after year bringing joy to every season in your garden.  They will not all bloom at the same time, but waves of orange, purple, red, pink, white, yellow, and even blue could dance across your landscape.

WHERE:
The seeds can produce plants that thrive in either a planter or open landscape. The mixture is adapted to grow in our desert soil and weather. That said, a little preparation may increase success. Don’t sow your seed in a bare spot of the garden.  (Get it?  Nothing lives THERE!) Instead, find a place that has weeds (not “Bermuda” grass) or other existing plants. (How colorful could bright yellow poppies be near the base of Spanish Lavender?)

WHEN:
The good time to sow seed is when nature is dispersing them in the wild.  Because we have such hot summers here, and sometimes cold winters, early Fall seeding seems to work best.

HOW:
Remove the weeds and scratch the soil surface just a bit.  There’s no need to dig down past two inches or to prepare a special planting bed.  Sprinkle the seeds over the soil covering them ever so lightly.  Moisten the area. Let nature and a little water help them find their way into their “niche.”  The base of a rock, sidewalk or patio edge is often a place where just enough moisture collects providing a “seedling” haven.

Caution:
Don’t use pre-emergents or herbicides in or near areas in which seeds will be sown. If these products have been used in the recent past, the germination rate may be low the first few years.
